Workshop Note

It is the aim of the Model Driven Business Process Engineering (MDBPE) workshop to cover the relatively new research area of the application of software modelling techniques to the modelling and engineering of business processes. MDBPE aims to become a business solutions development method based on the use of models for the specification, design, analysis, synthesis, deployment, testing and maintenance of complex project environments to produce quality solutions that can significantly contribute to corporate decision making at a strategic level. Considering the ever increasing complexity and cost of the development of business solutions, MDBPE is an initative that recognises the corporate needs of the industry. In effect, MDBPE is based and developed on Model Driven Architecture (MDA) best practices and techniques. MDA is a powerful software development method proposed by the Object Management Group (OMG) which has experienced strong support by the software industry and academia.

King's College London was founded by King George IV and the Duke of Wellington (then Prime Minister) in 1829 as a university college in the tradition of the Church of England. It now welcomes staff and students of all faiths and beliefs. King's professors played a major part in nineteenth-century science, and in extending higher education to women, working men and through evening classes. The College has grown and developed through mergers with several institutions who have their own distinguished histories. These include the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals; Chelsea College, Queen Elizabeth College, and the Institute of Psychiatry.

In August 2010 the School of Natural & Mathematical Sciences was formed following the reorganisation of the internationally renowned School of Physical Sciences & Engineering. The School of Natural & Mathematical Sciences continues to deliver world class research, education and innovation, whilst building on the significant presence of physics, chemistry and biology across the College and combining it with the School’s existing strengths in mathematics and informatics. This exciting development has therefore generated a platform where the rich legacy of pioneering King’s scientists can be continued.
